So this semester I would like to research a some-what narrow topic which is microwaves. I wanted to choose something that no one else would write about and that is why I chose to research microwaves. Different technologies make everyday life easier, but are they also causing negative effects for some? I have made an outline of how a piece of technology as small and simple as a microwave can have such a positive and negative effect on different ways of living in the world, depending on peoples life styles, culture, and location. I hope throughout my paper to enlighten myself and all my readers on the effects of technology in the most unforeseen way.
Okay, so it is microwave OVENS you want to learn more about, which is just fine. But "microwaves" are actually micro waves, the phenomenon that makes microwave ovens work. I think your topic is very relevant, as there is a debate about the safety of the microwave oven. But since this is a class on technology and human VALUES, I want you to go beyond just determining if microwave ovens are safe. That's a science issue. But investigating WHY people are suspicious of microwave ovens (or cell phones or vaccinations or any other technology) is certainly within the realm of a humanities class. What is the debate about microwave oven safety? Who is making the arguments against them? Where are their ideas and assumptions coming from. Try researching that and see what you find.
